The Quilt Merchant is pleased to offer a range of patchwork classes to suit beginners and seasoned quilters. We provide a gentle and kind environment in which to learn, create and achieve. Whatever stage you are at, we can help you along your patchwork journey.


Patchwork Classes / Workshops

BYO Project Workshop

Kim Reilly - $20 per week

Mondays 10am- 12pm | April 8th- May 27th 2024
Wednesdays 10am- 12pm | April 10th- May 29th 2024

This is the time to make progress on your patchwork projects!

During these workshops you can work on your own projects with advice and support from our resident quilting extraordinaire, Kim Reilly. Unfinished projects, techniques, new patterns or ideas or planning for the next project are all things covered during this time. Please make sure you message Kim if you need anything specific before each class. Coffee, tea and biscuits always available. Feel free to bring your own foods if you have dietary needs. On Wednesdays, feel free to stay on until 3pm for a Sit ‘n Sew for an additional $5!

The Applique Guild of Australia (TAGA)
meets at The Quilt Merchant

$5 per session*

10:30am- 2:30pm | 9th of April 2024 | 14th of May | 11th of June

The Quilt Merchant has opened its doors to the Inner West Chapter of TAGA!

Join us on the second Tuesday of each month with your applique (any type of applique) and mingle with other applique enthusiasts. Learn, share, create and chat! Morning tea provided.

(*) you will need to join The Applique Guild of Australia to join in this session - guest are welcome to attend 2 sessions before joining.


Night Class

$20 per session

Wednesdays 7pm-9pm | April 10th- May 29th

This is the time if you work during the day to make progress on your patchwork projects at our night class! Bookings Essential - Maximum Class Size of 10

(*) you will need to bring 1m of feature fabric - this can be for the main apron and the pockets, or add a Fat 1/4 for the pockets to contrast with the main apron. Template provided on the day, along with a link to download the pattern.


New Beginnings (Term 2)

15th of April - 27th of May 2024 | Mondays 1pm - 3pm

A great way to get introduced to the world of patchwork!

A series of workshops for those new to patchwork and would like to try their hand at making a patchwork quilt top. All terminology will be explained and you don’t need to bring any special equipment - we’ll provide it all for you to learn on. If you have a sewing machine, but don’t know how to use it, we will show you how. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can use one of ours to get started.

(*) full payment is required prior to the course starting. Classes cannot be carried over to the following term - if classes are missed, we will endeavour to catch you up.


Sit & Sew Fridays

$15 per session

Fridays 10am - 3pm | Term 2 Dates: 26th April, May 10th, 24th & 31st

Slide into the weekend on a high!

At The Quilt Merchant, we believe strongly in the therapeutic power of sewing, chatting, laughing…and more sewing! These Friday sewing sessions are designed to lift you into the weekend. After a long week of everyday life, often with the prospect of getting no sewing done on the weekend, means Fridays are an excellent time to get your positive vibe on for the weekend. Bring an old project or start a new one - mix with like-minded people for a day of creativity.


Squaring Up & Binding

$40 for class

Thursday 2nd May 10am - 1pm

Don’t get yourself in a bind!

This workshop will delve into how to get those quilts from being just quilted to finished! Whether you’ve just got your quilt back from the Longarm quilter or just have finished quilting it on your own machine, we will show you how to trim those quilts square and attach a binding. Samples will be provided for you to practice on and feel free to bring along your own quilt for advice and guidance.
